The human behind the role

Behind every title, function and responsibility is a human being.

The Human Behind the Role is a programme from Just in Time Consult for reflection and development, centred on the human being behind the role.

For leaders, teams and organisations. The programme is tailored to your needs and priced by quotation. Send an enquiry to explore what could work for you.

We create space to pause, notice what is happening, reflect and understand before choosing the next step.

We do not begin by telling people what their problems are. We begin with questions.

WHY?

People are expected to lead, make decisions, collaborate, perform and take responsibility. But what needs to be in place for this to remain possible over time?

Behind every title and function is a human being. When we step into our professional roles, the whole person comes with us: our bodies, thoughts, feelings, experiences, relationships and what gives us meaning and direction.

That is why it is not always enough to ask:

“How do we get people to perform better?”

We also need to explore:

“What conditions make sustainable performance possible, without losing ourselves in the role?”

The Human Behind the Role creates a structured space for that exploration. It makes room for individual perspectives while paying attention to the organisational conditions that influence work.

WHAT?

A structured process for the human behind the role

The programme is built around a structured process for self-leadership, leadership and human development in working life.

We can explore questions relating to areas such as:

  • The working environment and organisational well-being
  • Stress, energy and recovery
  • Relationships, trust and collaboration
  • Responsibility, boundaries and self-leadership
  • Meaning, values and direction

At its centre is The Health Wheel: BODY, MIND, HEART and SPIRIT.

The Human Behind the Role – from data and information to knowledge and wisdom, with The Health Wheel as a model

The Health Wheel is not a test or a diagnosis. It is a way of viewing the human being from several interconnected perspectives and exploring what may lie beneath the surface.

By noticing what is happening, recognising connections and introducing knowledge, new perspectives can emerge. The Health Wheel helps us see how different parts of life and work can influence one another and the whole.

The Health Wheel contributes a holistic perspective as we move from what we see and experience towards understanding, possible choices and action.

HOW?

From pausing and reflecting to possible next steps

We begin by creating a pause from the pace of everyday life.

PAUSE → NOTICE → REFLECT → UNDERSTAND → CHOOSE → ACT → FOLLOW UP

Participants have the opportunity to explore their situation and notice what matters to them.

We then introduce knowledge, research, experience and perspectives. Complex subjects are made understandable without oversimplifying what matters.

Reflection questions, The Health Wheel and the COMPASS cards can support the process. They do not provide ready-made answers. They open up opportunities for personal discoveries, new perspectives and conversation.

We do not give people our path. We help them explore their own.

WHAT CAN THE PROCESS OPEN UP?

The process gives people and organisations the opportunity to pause and explore things that can otherwise easily fade into the background.

Participants may become more aware of:

  • What influences their work and well-being
  • Their own patterns, needs and possible choices
  • What they can influence themselves and what they cannot influence alone
  • Questions that need conversation, support or change
  • Possible next steps and how to follow them up

For the organisation, the process can contribute to clearer conversations and a greater understanding of what rests with the individual, the team and the organisation respectively.

Sometimes, the next step is something an individual wants to try. Sometimes, it becomes clear that the conditions around the person also need attention.

We all have responsibilities, but not the same responsibilities.

The process does not promise a predetermined outcome. What participants discover and choose to do depends on their situation and the opportunities for change available to them.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The Human Behind the Role can be adapted for:

  • Managers and leaders
  • Leadership teams
  • HR professionals and those responsible for the working environment and organisational development
  • Teams and working groups
  • Organisations seeking a preventive approach and space for sustainable work, leadership and collaboration

The programme can be relevant both for organisations that want to prevent problems and for workplaces where questions about workload, responsibility, collaboration or direction have already become apparent.

It is not a standard solution applied to every organisation in the same way. The starting point is the participants’ reality, the organisation’s circumstances and the purpose agreed together.

WHEN?

When might the programme be relevant?

The best time to create space for reflection is not necessarily when problems have already become significant.

The programme can be used preventively when an organisation wants to strengthen people’s ability to meet demands, change and responsibility sustainably. It may also be relevant when people take on new roles, during organisational changes, when collaboration is challenging or when clearer direction is needed.

When difficulties already exist, the process can help participants explore what is happening, which aspects they can influence themselves and which questions need to be addressed by the team or organisation.

Possible formats

Development can take different amounts of time. The format is therefore adapted to the purpose, participants and organisational circumstances.
